In this programme students understand biology from the perspective of the fundamental functional units of life, increasing the complexity from the molecular level to cellular, tissue and organismic levels. At the same time, students will be trained in laboratory techniques commonly associated with research in the molecular and cell biology field. It shoulders a significant portion of undergraduate teaching in the School of Biological Sciences. Research in MCB covers diverse areas and different genetic model organisms and mammalian cell lines are adopted to understand cellular processes such as cell development, cell cycle regulation, intracellular signaling, cytokinesis and vesicular transport. Many of the diseases affecting humans, such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes and arthritis are due to defects at the cellular level, which cause some cells to behave abnormally. Therefore, a deeper understanding of cellular processes is of paramount importance in order to treat such diseases.

अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय विद्यार्थीहरू प्रवेशको लागि आवश्यकता

Applicant should have completed a good B.Sc degree (first class honours or second class honours upper division or equivalent) in Science/Life Sciences or related field. Good GRE/GATE and TOEFL scores (for international applicants whose native language is not English) will be advantageous and students with relevant research experience and publication record are favoured.
