This course helps students to learn installing, commissioning, troubleshooting and upgrading security systems. On completion of this course, students should be able to install wired and wireless network infrastructure and devices; set up wired and wireless local and wide area network; install, upgrade, configure and maintain surveillance systems; install, upgrade, configure and maintain intrusion detection systems; install, upgrade, configure and maintain access control systems; perform troubleshooting at card level on security equipment. Graduates with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.5 and above may apply for progression to the first year of a related diploma course at the Polytechnics. Graduates with a GPA of 2.3 and above may also apply for progression to related Higher Nitec courses offered by ITE. Nitec in Security Technology graduates are employed by companies that provide security systems solutions. There are excellent opportunities for career advancement to supervisory positions and beyond. The challenge is for students to prepare themselves by upgrading their technical skills and knowledge through higher-level courses.

The modules include - Core Modules (50 credits): Electrical and Electronics Principles 7, Security Essentials and CAD 6, Computer Essentials and Networking 6, Security Electronics Applications 7, WLAN Configuration and Maintenance 6, Surveillance Systems 7, Intrusion and Access Control Systems 7, Industry Attachment 4; Life Skills Modules (14 credits): Life Skills for Personal Development 8, Life Skills at the Workplace 4, Sports and Wellness I 1, Sports and Wellness II 1; Elective Modules (6 credits): Technical Mathematics 3, Information Transport Systems 3, Communicative English (Level 1 to 8) 3, English Language 'O' I to IV 2 or 3, Mathematics (Level 1 and 10) 3, Mathematics 'O' I to IV 2 or 3, Overseas Experiential Programme 2 or 3.

Students from Hong Kong must have completed Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) with English Language (Syllabus B) or Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE). Students from India must possess secondary school certificate (minimum 10 years of education) or Senior School Certificate (minimum 12 years of education). Indonesian students must have completed National Final Evaluation Examination (SMA or SMU EBTANAS). Students from Myanmar need to undertake Basic Education High School Examination Certificate (BEHS)/Matriculation Examination -Standard 10 (minimum 10 years of education). Malaysian students should have obtained the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM); Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM); Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia Vokasional (SPMV); Unified Examination Certificate (UEC). Students from China need to have completed the National College Entrance Examination (NCEE) Certificate Gao Kao; High School/ Senior Middle School Examination (minimum 12 years). Students from Vietnam are required to have the Bang Trung Hoc Pho Thong (also known as Bang Tu Tai or Baccalaureate) or High School Certificate (minimum 12 years of education). Students from Nepal should possess National School Leaving Certificate (minimum 10 years of education). Students from countries other than listed above must have obtained National qualifications assessed based on equivalence to the Singapore-Cambridge GCE 'O' level examination or the High School Certificate (minimum 12 years of education). They must have passed three GCE 'O' subjects (Grades 1 to 6) including English language (Grades 1 to 8) and mathematics (Grades 1 to 6). Applicants whose first language is not in English must have obtained Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum score of 475 (paper-based) or 53 (internet-based) or a score of 4.5 on International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
