This programme equips the participants with the skills and knowledge to use the correct terminology in interacting with healthcare professionals and patients. The unit also equips healthcare support worker with skills to explain basic medical terms and acronyms in interactions with patients and next-of-kin. This programme provides understanding of the principles of medical terminology; appropriate usage of medical terminology and acronyms in interactions with healthcare professionals; explanation of basic medical terminology and acronyms in interactions with patients and next-of-kin; and assessment mode - written assessment; oral assessment; role play.

Applicants should be able to listen, speak, read and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to Employability Skills Workforce Skills Qualifications (ES WSQ) Literacy Level 4. They should be able to manipulate numbers at a proficiency level equivalent to ES WSQ Literacy Level 4.

The Centre for Professional Development (CPD) aims to promote life-long learning among working adults so that they can stay relevant in the current knowledge-based economy. It offers a suite of Continuing Education and Training (CET) programs, ranging from personal interest and self-improvement to job specific training. The CET certificate and diploma programs are specially designed to help working adults upgrade their work skills or prepare for career transitions. Accommodation is also available for short-term stay by foreign visitors who are invited by RP for official reasons.
