This course is a story of humanity from the days of early hunter-gatherer societies to the industrial and post-industrial societies of department present times. The focus is primarily on four key themes community, commerce, conflict and culture. These themes when explored together will provide a framework for students to learn and discover for themselves what civilisation is, and what sets humans apart from their fellow creatures. In the first year, students will study the four key themes alongside specific civilisations as case-studies. In the second year, the four themes will be reinforced and brought closer home as the students embark on a study of the modern Singapore society. The course content includes elements of human geography, social interaction and political thought, economic theory, history, and the darker and destructive sides of human conflict and military power. These elements are intertwined together to illustrate the reach of human endeavour and the global interconnections which make each community part of the human world.

Admission Examination for entry into Year 5 (IBDP) is administered to students (local or overseas) who have not sat for the Sec 4 GCE 'O' Level or Yr 10. A copy of the results slip must be attached for reference.
