This course is specifically designed for entry to higher education. Applicants should be aware that they are committing themselves to a further three years of study after the completion of the course. The Access to HE Diploma Business Studies is a modular course, that is, students are assessed over a number of business specific and study skills modules. These modules will provide a firm introduction to subjects that will be covered more fully in the degree courses learners intend to pursue in higher education. The course is accredited by the Open College Network London Region OCNLR. Course content: During the academic year, learners will undertake the following modules: Business Option Modules: Finance: An introduction to the basic principles of preparing and understanding accounts for sole traders and limited companies as well as preparing budgets and interpreting financial statements of public limited companies. Business Context: This module covers the structure of different business organisations, the effects of external influences on businesses as well as human resources and ethics and corporate social responsibility. Economics: This module will cover the importance aspects of economics beginning with and introduction to economics and then proceeding to government economic policy, the global economy and the price mechanism. Marketing: In this module you will gain and understanding of the key principles of marketing within an organisation which includes developing marketing plans, analysing the market and undertaking marketing research. Mathematics for Business: The module will begin with an introduction to mathematics and then cover areas such as data analysis and probability, statistics and quantitative techniques. Core Modules: These are modules undertaken by all Access to HE Diploma learners. They consist of English, Information Technology and Study skills.
