Accounting: Year 1: Provides an introduction to accounting and finance, complemented with study of economics and law. Year 2: Develops the specialism�s of financial and management accounting, along with business finance; students are encouraged to consider the value in measuring business wealth and begin to explore wider issues of corporate social responsibility such as the contribution of accounting in matters of sustainability and environmental conservation. Year 3: Includes advanced topics in financial and management accounting and also the study of auditing and taxation; by the end of this year students normally have completed the accreditation requirements for professional accountancy bodies, provided they have taken the classes prescribed for the accredited pathway. Year 4: Students can either specialise in accounting as a single honours subject or continue to a joint honours degree in accounting with another principal subject; honours classes include advanced management accounting; multinational financial management; developments in financial accounting; accounting classics; pricing of securities in financial markets; corporate financial theory and policy; accounting information systems; accounting and sustainability; planning and control; strategic accounting and financial management in entrepreneurial firms; public sector accounting; positive accounting theory; accounting and risk; corporate governance; comparative international accounting. Business Enterprise: Year 1: Provides an understanding of the radical nature of entrepreneurship and its ability to change industries, markets and society, introducing the vocabulary, concepts and practice of enterprise. Students take a core class entrepreneurship: theory & practice; during years 1 to 3 students also undertake the business school�s management development programme which focuses on key skills in information technology; problem-solving; leadership; negotiation; decision-making; business ethics and strategic management. Year 2: 2 core classes: Creativity and opportunity identification; new venture creation; students choose 2 elective classes from: Introduction to business start-up; a computer-based simulation class; knowledge, science and technology-based businesses. Year 3: 2 core classes: Entrepreneurial capital and resources; venture management, strategy and growth. 2 elective classes: Corporate entrepreneurship; social and community entrepreneurship. Year 4: Venture management in practice; family business; theory and practice; issues and trends in entrepreneurship; entrepreneurial learning: theory and practice; students also undertake a dissertation in which they research an aspect of enterprise they are particularly interested in.
