Accounting and finance enables students to develop the skills and expert judgment for financial measurement and presentation together with an understanding of the legal framework regulating operational practice; accounting is concerned with the measurement and disclosure of financial information; accountants have a vital role in ensuring the accuracy of financial information given to private individuals, managers, investors, regulators, decision makers and the public; statistics explores the fields of probability theory, statistical inference and operational research; probability is the study of random, or chance, phenomena to determine the type of behaviour that can be expected of a system subject to chance fluctuations; statistical inference uses observational or experimental data to distinguish between chance variation and that due to identifiable causes; operational research consists of topics such as linear programming and the theory of queues, arising in industrial and commercial problems.
