The agricultural market is increasingly complex, with famers' produce going to foodstuff processors, supermarkets, co-operatives, small retailers and direct to the public, while agriculture is also under continuing and growing pressure both to diversify its production and to manage the environment on behalf of wider society; in this context, this degree, offering a through grounding in both farming and commerce, meets the strong demand for graduates with an understanding of both agriculture and business; it provides a firm grasp of agricultural systems and science alongside the principles and practice of business.

Year 1: Core modules: introduction to financial accounting; crop growth and development; animal science; agricultural systems; rural land use; introduction to soils and their management; resource allocation and the market process; the macroeconomic environment; introduction to rural business; introduction to rural policy; optional modules: 2 from the following four: introduction to management accounting and finance; plant microbe interaction; life skills; introduction to computing for accounting or computing and statistics for rural science. Year 2: Core modules: agronomy and production of cereals and grain legumes; dairy and beef production; grassland management and forage conservation; agronomy and production of non-cereal crops; farm business analysis; agrifood marketing systems; business law; farm business budgeting and control; optional modules: 3 from the following five: animal health and applied physiology; crop protection; agriculture in economic development; sheep production/pig production; the European Community, agriculture and the rural economy. Year 3: Core modules: animal production systems; grassland research and development; literature project; agrifood marketing planning; management and decision making in farm businesses; economics of public policy for agriculture; seminar topics in agriculture; optional modules: 3 from the following eight: crop improvement; veterinary science and animal technology; animal behaviour and welfare; arable crop agronomy; management accounting 1 and 2; experimental design and analysis; business information; marketing management.
