Variety and explanation of social institutions; understanding other societies; systems and processes (family, kinship and marriage; art, religion, ritual and symbolism; political structures, law and agencies of social control; economic organisation; development and social change; anthropology, psychology and language); biological Anthropology: human ecology, evolution and adaptation; man's evolutionary relationships with other primates; present population diversity; temporal and spatial patterns of traits; adaptability responses; effects of diet and disease; interplay of cultural and biological variables.

Year 2: Social and biological anthropology; biology, culture and society; disputes and developments in anthropology; field methods; regions.
