Financial services have become increasingly important for China�s economic growth and prosperity; today, 4 of the 10 biggest commercial banks in the world are found in China and since 2006, China has been responsible for about half of all the IPOs (initial public offering) of all the stock markets in the world; the total market value of China�s listed companies is staggering at $2 trillion; this has resulted in a widening demand for talented bankers and financiers who have an intimate knowledge of complex Chinese banking and financial systems; although there are already nearly 4 million employees in the Chinese financial industry, there is a severe shortage of highly qualified financial service managers who fully understand both the Western and Chinese financial systems and their profound differences; furthermore, international financial institutions require highly-skilled financial experts to help deal with financial competition and coordination with their Chinese counterparts; this Master's has been developed in order to meet this surge in demand for graduates both in and outside of China with the necessary knowledge and skills to understand the Chinese economy in the international context; this course aims to equip the student with the knowledge and understanding of general financial theories and corporate policies whilst focussing on Chinese financial and banking systems; students also develop the theoretical and methodological skills necessary to pursue further postgraduate research; this Master's programme is ideally suited to students with a background in finance, accounting, mathematics, statistics, and economics and a strong interest in contemporary China; it is suitable for both UK and non-UK students, including those from China.
