Biochemistry is the study of the structure and function of living organisms at the molecular level; this degree programme combines modules in specialised subjects such as genetics and cell biology with core biochemistry modules in recognition of the need to provide students with a solid background in other overlapping fields of biology. Year 1: Core modules; molecules of life; cell structure and function; genetics; biotechnology; protein biochemistry; impact of microbes; anatomy and tissue structure; infection and Immunity; human physiology; physical chemistry for life sciences; organic chemistry; spectroscopy and bio-inorganic chemistry; evolutionary biology. Year 2: Core modules; cell biology; medical microbiology; genetics; clinical biochemistry; cellular pathology; haematology and transfusion science; practical physiology; plus 1 from: microbiological techniques; practical physiology. Year 3: Core modules; dissertation; plus modules in biochemistry and biomedicine.
