Biochemistry is the study of the structure and function of living organisms at the molecular level; at Lancaster, our biochemistry with genetics degree combines modules in specialised subjects such as genetics and cell biology with core biochemistry modules in recognition of the need to provide you with a solid background in other overlapping fields of biology; this degree is aimed at those who wish to study biochemistry, thus developing an in depth understanding of the molecular mechanisms of life, but want the focus of those studies to be on the study of the genetic blueprint of life, DNA.Year 1: Core modules; molecules of life; cell structure and function; genetics; biotechnology; protein biochemistry; impact of microbes; anatomy and tissue structure; infection and immunity; human physiology; experimental design and data analysis; physical chemistry for life sciences; organic chemistry; spectroscopy and bio-inorganic chemistry;; evolutionary biology. Year 2: Core modules; biochemistry; cell biology; medical microbiology; genetics; biochemical techniques; cell biology techniques; DNA technology; microbiological techniques. Year 3: Core modules; dissertation; plus modules in biochemistry and genetics.
