The Cancer Research UK Cambridge Research Institute focuses on research into cell and molecular biology of cancer and development processes; research areas include: patterning and polarity in the C elegans embryo; signals and mechanisms that organise the Xenopus embryo; cell fate determination and cell-cell interaction in the nervous systems; molecular analysis of Drosophila morphogenesis; analysis of gene expression and cell interactions in early vertebrate development; mechanism and regulation of transcription, DNA repair and DNA damage signalling; regulation of transcription by oncogenes and tumour suppressor proteins; germ cells in the mouse; molecular control of neurogenesis and neuropatterning in Xenopus embryos; control of mitosis by proteolysis and cyclin-dependent kinases; cellular and genetic analysis of Drosophila centrosome; localisation of maternal determinants in Drosophila; formation of mesoderm in amphibian embryos; mechanisms of genetic imprinting; cancer studies are also available in the Department of Oncology and the MRC (Medical Research Council) Cancer Cell Unit; in addition to the course fee (University Composition fee) students may have to pay a college fee.
