General areas of research include: structures of molecules and their vibrational states using ultraviolet, infra-red, Raman, magnetic resonance (nuclear magnetic resonance and electron spin resonance) spectroscopies; design and synthesis of novel metal-co-ordination compounds for catalysis and biomimetic studies; molecular structures of diverse range of solid crystalline organics, organo-metallic and co-ordination compounds using single crystal X-ray diffraction; photocatalysis of organic and inorganic pollutants in water; electroless deposition of metals; structure elucidation of novel secondary metabolites from Xylariaceous fungi; synthesis and biological evaluation of novel drugs for treatment of cancer; stability of organic ions in gaseous phase and mechanistic studies using isotopic substitution; polymer characterisation and process analysis; molecular simulation applied to absorption and transport properties of confined fluids.
