This programme includes a significant element of work-based learning and is suitable for students in part-time or full-time employment; the course has been designed in conjunction with employers to extend the skills of those working with children in settings including nurseries, pre-schools, primary schools and secondary schools; the student chooses a pathway which suits their working environment: 0-3 years; Foundation Stage; teaching assistants (working with children up to Key Stage 3); different pathways are offered by different colleges; work-based learning is a significant element of the programme, and so it is anticipated that the student completes the programme in 2years of study; the student is usually expected to attend college for one afternoon and evening per week.
