The criminology with applied psychology degree scheme differs slightly from the main criminology degree in that there is a greater emphasis upon individual aspects of offending behaviour; in the 1st year, students are introduced to basic legal principles and to a broad spectrum of criminological theories; they also study introductory courses in psychology, taught from within the psychology department; in the subsequent 2 years, 1/3 of the course focuses on studying psychology in relation to offenders and criminal behaviour; there is also training in the basic methods of criminological research which will provide students with the skills for critical evaluation of both theory and empirical studies within this field.
