On this course students explore the events behind media headlines and investigate a subject which is relevant, topical and has real, practical application in contemporary society; criminology draws on sociology, psychology, history, politics and law to examine how crime is defined, why people commit crime and how society responds; the 1st year provides a broad base approach to the subject of criminology and emphasises students place and influence in the investigation of crime.

1st year: Criminal law and justice; introduction to criminology; investigating identity; sex, drugs and rock �n� roll. 2nd year: Contemporary criminology; disruptive investigation; law, discrimination and human rights and organised crime. 3rd year: Criminal justice systems; dissertation; penal policy; community cohesion; cyber crime; globalisation; terrorism and state crime; understanding victims and violence. Students are encouraged to undertake voluntary work with offenders and victims of crime.
