This course presents a post-colonial analysis on the treatment of 'Western' sign language people over time, focusing on their: languages; cultures; education; arts; and social structures; using the most up-to-date research information presented from deaf communities own (deafhood) perspectives; this course welcomes both deaf and hearing people, to increase awareness of the positive contributions that sign language peoples offer to the whole of society, and thus equips its graduates with the means to enlighten and empower both hearing and deaf communities.
