This course will develop technical and creative skills and provide a sound practical background for those who intend to work in the New Media industry, for example in Interactive Media, Film and Animation, Web Design, Computer Games Design or 3D Modelling. The course develops an understanding of the media and is intended to provide a mature and industry orientated approach to the subject, the core of which is the Specialist Pathway sessions.  In these, you will specialise in your chosen subject area and develop your working practice to a professional standard, including skills in research, communication and problem solving.  The emphasis is on both conceptual and technical skills.  Besides taught sessions, you will work on numerous live projects and gain experience through work placements. 

 

The Foundation Degree also involves a thorough academic study of the subject, for example, through modules in Professional and Contextual Studies. These will be taught using lectures, group tutorials and seminars by Stafford College lecturers and by industry specialists. You will also be taught visual skills and presentation methods enabling you to express yourself clearly, drawing upon how others have responded to the environment and shaped the culture we share today. 

 

You will have access to the well equipped computer suites, design studios and workshops within the Broad Eye building. A high level of individual support is provided within this purpose built art and design facility. Working alongside students on other university level art and design courses broadens your experience.

 

This course welcomes applicants with a variety of qualifications, skills and experience. It has been designed to appeal to students progressing directly from further education courses, to those who are currently in work and looking to gain a formal qualification and to those who wish to change career direction.

 

Assessment

Foundation Degrees offer a wide range of assessment opportunities. Students will be assessed on their underpinning knowledge, technical skills and the application of these skills in the workplace. Verbal, written and practical skills will be assessed, with formal and informal feedback given regularly to help students understand their progress.
