Whether you intend to work in the commercial photographic industry or become a practicing artist working with lens based media, a sound technical background is fundamental. Through live practical projects this course will develop your technical and creative skills, introducing you to new materials, techniques and processes and encouraging your development of visual language and exploration of contexts and concepts. You will be taught how to research and develop ideas, presenting them visually and verbally and your business and professional skills will be extended. As the course progresses you will be encouraged to work with increasing independence eventually negotiating a personal direction and exploring subjects in which you have a personal interest.

 

You will be increasingly exposed to professional standard briefs encouraging you to develop your research, communication and problem solving skills. Workplace skills will also be part of the course, students will for example be expected to plan and cost products, produce marketing material etc. You will be encouraged to develop the confidence to analyse art and design outcomes and to reflect on your own progress.

 

Students have access to our well equipped photography studios, processing and printing facilities and professional standard digital imaging suites. A high level of individual support is provided within the purpose built art and design facility. Working alongside students on other art and design courses broadens the experience.

 

This course welcomes applicants with a variety of qualifications, skills and experience. It has been designed to appeal to students progressing directly from further education courses, to those who are currently in work and looking to gain a formal qualification and to those who wish to change career direction.

 

Assessment

Foundation Degrees offer a wide range of assessment opportunities. Students will be assessed on their underpinning knowledge, technical skills and the application of these skills in the workplace. Verbal, written and practical skills will be assessed, with formal and informal feedback given regularly to help students understand their progress.
