This course offers students the chance to explore educational concepts and practice within a wider perspective; it links theory and practice and students learn and reflect on pedagogic techniques whilst studying educational topics and systems to deepen their knowledge of education and varying cultures; topics include: planning and structuring learning; assessment, feedback and evaluation; cultures of classrooms; language in the learning environment; group dynamics and interpersonal communication; educational ideologies and the purposes of education; policy and the cultural context; UK and comparative education studies; popular culture and ‘high’ culture; cultures of children and young people; cultural construction of identity; knowledge, the curriculum and its cultural context; equality and diversity in education.
