Research interests include: Environmental Medicine: the causes of the increase in asthma, and the possibility that this has been a consequence of changes in population diet; the effects of particulate air pollution on people with cardiac disease, using different metrics for measuring particles; the effects of laboratory pollutant exposure in man; Occupational Medicine: the influence of exposure to chemicals on risks of Parkinson's disease; investigation of possible long-term health effects associated with commercial diving; factors influencing the outcome of treatment in decompression illness in Scotland; Occupational Hygiene: improved methods of assessing exposures to toxic substances in the workplace, especially by the lung and the skin.
