If you intend to work in Media Production this Foundation Degree aims to provide students with the necessary technical and management skills.  You will learn the skills required for shooting in a studio, going out on location and setting up multi-camera events.

 

There is a high level of practical learning, with “live” projects for clients, coupled with relevant academic theories.  You will be guided and advised on how to work for real clients on video productions, and the growing area of event productions.  You will be taught valuable skills in research, the development of ideas and presenting proposals.  Your video production skills, including range of formats, styles of work and professional techniques, will develop alongside business and management skills in terms of negotiating with clients, producing schedules and working to time frames.

 

The idea of the Foundation Degree is to allow learning in a vocational setting and offer real work placement opportunities.  You will explore the ways in which freelance work is an important part of the Media industry and the transferable skills required of the workplace, such as teamwork, organizational skills and contingency plans.

 

There is also, of course, the opportunity to develop your own film and video work.  There is scope to be creative and learn more about the construction of both drama and documentary work.  You will be able to develop your own writing skills for film and television.

 

While based at Stafford College, with its own studio and computer facilities, there should also be the opportunity to work at Staffordshire University’s Beaconside television studio and their other facilities.  It is anticipated that some of the lecturers on the course will also be made available from the university.

 

Having gained the Foundation Degree in two years, graduates are guaranteed progression to the final third year of Staffordshire University Film and Television Technology courses.  Alternatively you may have already found employment or your own area of specialism.
