German: All Years: Language teaching and learning, including translation; comprehension-type work; radio and satellite television broadcast; discussion classes with German native speakers.
History: Year 1: Broad and comparative introduction to a wide range of historical studies; students may select particular paths.
Year 2: Medieval and modern history can be combined in varying proportions; predominantly modern history; largely medieval history; a predominantly British history course; continental history; European history; history of the Americas; political history; economic and social history; options available in religious or intellectual history.
Year 4: Students select 1 of around a dozen special subjects, ranging from the Norman Conquest to the impact of the Vietnam war on US society, to be studied in depth and with the use of primary sources; thematic course.
