Level 1: The biological basis of health is a theme that underpins level 1 study and gives an introduction to the scientific, sociological and behavioural principles of health; subject areas studied may include: introduction to biological chemistry; introduction to counselling skills; food: cultivation to consumption; cell biology and metabolism; human physiology; psychological well-being. Level 2: The underpinning theme is the biological basis of disease, and takes the student through processes common to body systems, leading to nutrition-related disease and the identification of the need for nutrition intervention or the role of nutrition in care; subject areas studied may include: the nutrients; biology of disease; nutrition across the lifespan; experimental nutrition; nutritional assessment; work based learning. Level 3: Concerned with the development of the application of nutrition, and includes relevant aspects of nutritional medicine and practice; subject areas studied may include: clinical nutrition and dietetics; clinical sciences; health promotion; nutrition marketing and the media; dissertation; elective modules.
