Teaching takes the form of lectures and seminars in theory, politics, history, economics, law, security and various regional and area studies, as well as individual thesis supervision; the taught part of the course aims to familiarise students with the range and variety of disciplines required for a thorough critical understanding of the international system in all its complexity and of the means and methods that have been devised to understand it better; the programme is suitable both for students who have just completed their 1st degree and for mature students from, for example, industry, teaching, the civil service or the armed forces; the course is particularly suitable for students wishing to become practitioners; various optional papers dealing with European studies are available; students who take at least 3 of the named European options may opt to be awarded the degree of MPhil in International Relations (European studies); in addition to the course fee, students may have to pay a College fee and a University Composition fee.

Track A (HUPIM1): 4 taught courses plus a 10000-word dissertation by the 30 June; Track B (HUPIM2): primarily for those proceeding to doctoral work: 3 taught courses, research training plus a 25000- word dissertation by 31st July.
