Mathematics gives students a broad and integrated introduction to the basic mathematics that should be known by a mathematics graduate; a thorough knowledge of mathematics is essential for a complete understanding of the sciences, and has become increasingly important with the development of new areas of application in the physical and biological sciences, engineering and social studies; accounting and finance enables students to develop the skills and expert judgment for financial measurement and presentation together with an understanding of the legal framework regulating operational practice; accounting is concerned with the measurement and disclosure of financial information; accountants have a vital role in ensuring the accuracy of financial information given to private individuals, managers, investors, regulators, decision makers and the public.
