The Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health is a new School in the College of Life Sciences and Medicine; it conducts research to define how nutrition can prevent disease, improve health and enhance the quality of food; it is addressing the major diseases of the developed world in a series of linked programmes covering the themes of gut health, vascular health, and obesity and metabolic health; its work spans the full spectrum, from human to cellular research, and is underpinned by state of the art platform technologies such as transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics; current research topics in the school include study of nutrient effects on physiology and chronic disease; microbial influences on gut function; immune development and the interplay of nutrient, endocrine and physiological factors in metabolic health and obesity; extending these basic studies, the School�s Human Nutrition Unit is a sophisticated research facility for studying the relationship between diet and health in humans; the translational work of the Institute, and the Public Health Nutrition Research Group and Knowledge Exchange groups carry out research examining how fundamental data, generated in the Institute and other research establishments, can be utilised in improving health and well-being, whether by developing education tools or influencing public health policy and pronouncements.
