The course has a strong basis in the chemical and biological sciences and students study subjects in the broad areas of fundamental chemistry, analytical chemistry and spectroscopy, biochemistry, and drug design, delivery and regulation, with a strong emphasis on gaining hands-on practical skills.

Year 1: Organic chemistry; physical chemistry; fundamental inorganic chemistry; laboratory safety and practice; pharmaceuticals (a global industry); analytical methods for chemical sciences; introduction to microbiology; fundamentals of biochemistry. Year 2: Synthetic organic chemistry; spectroscopy; analytical chemistry; heterocyclic chemistry and intro to drug design; bioinorganic chemistry; endocrinology, metabolism and homeostasis. Year 3: Advanced organic chemistry; advanced analytical chemistry; toxicology; advanced drug design and formulation; quality control and quality management in the laboratory; clinical biochemistry and pharmacology.
