The department is interested in the expressive and philosophical implications of emerging hybrid image cultures and is seeking research students whose work can question and develop this new terrain; themes that are important to the department include: the exploration of narrative and descriptive structures in still and moving images; the use of medical and industrial scanning technologies in a fine art and creative context; the found and appropriated image, archiving and circulation of images through the mass media; the documentary image in relation to re-staging of events; print in the public realm, exploring sites and histories that can generate questions about time and technology.
