Course research involves a wide range of biological, psychological and social factors; a variety of methods are used including neuroimaging, pharmacological challenge tests, randomised clinical trials and large longitudinal studies; researchers collaborate with other investigators within and outside of the University, including international collaborators in Europe, US, and the developing world; there are several strong research lines in the unit: Health services research: RCTs for the treatment of depression and psychoses; epidemiological: mainly depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia; psychopharmacology: anxiety, depression, and sleep problems; addictions: biological and epidemiological mechanisms underpinning dependence in humans; forensic mental health.
