This programme has a strong interdisciplinary focus challenging students to understand cities and regions from an economic, social and environmental perspective; it aims to provide a common understanding of the various influences affecting the planning process, and to teach a set of research skills that will help planners in practice; these skills include urban and regional economic analysis, the evaluation of environmental and regional policies and the study of institutional and political factors that impact city and regional development.

Compulsory 1/2 units, 2 1/2 unit options and 10000-word dissertation; compulsory courses: economics of regional and urban planning; geographical aspects of regional and urban planning; social and political aspects of regional and urban planning; urban policy and planning; 2 options from: economic aspects of project appraisal; socio-economic cohesion policies in the European Union; economic aspects of urban change; economic development: global change and local response; cities culture and politics in the south; urban environment; regional development and policy; urban policy and practice in the South; current issues in housing and urban policy; 1/2-unit courses from other departments may also be studied subject to approval.
