This course is offered on a non-modular basis; on completion students are recommended to the General Teaching for Scotland for provisional registration; students take subject specific elements in their own discipline i.e. chemistry; in addition students also work across the science disciplines to prepare them to teach science in S1 and S2; science students also explore and learn about teaching methodologies that are common across the sciences; all students must be comfortable in delivering generic S1 and S2 courses in school and this is the focus for the early part of the course; later in the course, the focus moves to the discrete sciences.

Learning and teaching in schools: (professional development; learning and teaching; social justice; placing this in context within different curriculum areas); learning and teaching in schools-the developing professional: provides opportunities for students to gain a wider and deeper knowledge and understanding of professional issues and developments relevant to the teaching profession in order to support achievement of all aspects of the Standard for Initial Teacher Education (SITE) as required before entry to the teaching profession as induction year teachers; 2 school experiences.
