This non-modular programme focuses on the nature of communication in the classroom; other topics covered include the use of the target language, differentiation, the teaching of grammar and information and communication technology and language teaching; language learning theories and examples of good practice informed by them are linked throughout the course; research on wider educational issues such as motivation, gender and language take up and different teaching and learning styles are considered and are essential to an understanding of effective teaching in the language classroom; successful completion leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) subject to satisfactory performance in skills tests and 60 credits at Master's level; the course includes an extensive 24 weeks of placement in 2 schools; at university sessions students discuss experiences with others on the course and learn more about the theory and practice of teaching.
