This programme is non-modular; the course also attracts 60 credits at Master's level; the course is designated 11-16 with the option of receiving enhancement at post 16 level; successful completion of the programme enables the University to recommend QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) subject to passing skills tests in numeracy, literacy and information communication technology (ICT); the programme is intended to produce teachers of the 11-16 with post 16 enhancement age range who are reflective practitioners.

Subject enrichment week: this falls in the block between the 2 school placements and has been designed to consolidate and extend particular aspects of subject knowledge; the link with the City Learning Centre to produce a science fair which enhances trainees knowledge of the cross phase between Key Stage 2 and 3 as well as their subject knowledge and pedagogy; there are also opportunities to experience a variety of out of the classroom activities for Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 in a range of locations; school experience: students are allocated to 2 schools from the University's secondary school partnership, in which they are expected to complete their training, and where they can demonstrate standards for the award of QTS; these 2 substantial school placements of 60 days each are framed by relevant University sessions, and progress is closely monitored by a mentor at the school supported by a subject tutor.
