The course is concerned with designing for performance and the broader spectrum of opportunities found within the entertainment industry; based on established theatre design principles and conceptual rigor it offers a wide variety of training, incorporating traditional design skills while embracing applications of new media; the course encourages students to explore ideas such as design for plays, dance, puppetry, themed environments, opera, award shows, concerts, installations, carnivals, exhibitions, product launches, film, television, festivals, animation and large-scale events; students are encouraged to be ambitious in their thinking and to embrace all aspects of Performance related design; Learning is primarily through studio-based projects, which are combined with theory and experiment; there is also the opportunity for work placement and involvement in live projects; the course culminates in a presentation of personal profile of creative design, which is assessed against professional standards of experimental and disciplined practice; the course team actively supports your individual journey, celebrate diversity and assist with the identification of your personal direction within this ever expanding and exciting area of design; facilities include designated studio spaces, a black box studio theatre, digital imaging suites, printmaking, photographic studios, green screen room, sound studio, animation studio and filmmaking/editing facilities.
