Briarwood College was founded in 1966 as the Briarwood Secretarial School and the institution became Briarwood College in 1979. It is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the State of Connecticut Board of Governors for Higher Education. The College has 43-acre campus, nestled at the base of Mount Southington, and it is approximately 20 miles from downtown Hartford, and is easily accessible to Bradley International Airport. The College is a student-centered private institution for men and women that fosters and encourages a commitment to learning throughout their lives. It is committed to the application of knowledge through a curriculum that is career and technically oriented with an emphasis on the liberal arts and an awareness of the challenges and opportunities that a global economy offers. The mission of the College is to provide an education that is practical in its application, yet stresses the need for students to use the resources of their own minds, with particular emphasis on the development of the self through discipline, responsibility and strength of expression.

Briarwood College offers an attractive residential setting for students who want the experience of living within a college community. Students are housed in two on-campus residences and campus housing is available to full-time students 25 and younger during the fall and spring semesters only. Eder Hall, the College’s on campus townhouse apartment complex, includes 20 apartments and each apartment comes with its own full-sized kitchen and furnished living room on the first floor as well as a bath/shower and 3 bedrooms on the second floor. Six students regularly share each townhouse. Cable, telephone, and internet access are available in each bedroom. Eder Hall also houses laundry facilities, a student lounge with computers for student use, the Student Center, and the offices of Health and Wellness Services, Career Services, Disability Services, and the Dean of Student Life. Palmisano Hall is opened in January, 2004 and provides 6 spacious, air-conditioned apartments for residential on-campus living. Each apartment contains a full-sized kitchen and furnished living room, as well as two showers, a sink area, and 5 bedrooms. Nine students regularly share each apartment. Cable, telephone, and internet access as well as a washer and dryer are available in each apartment.
