This degree is designed to draw on the life and work experiences of adults. The instructors, most of whom are business professionals, show students how to apply the theoretical skills they gained through completing the McGhee core curriculum to the workplace. Students also take specific courses in management, finance, economics, and marketing. With the insights gained and skills learned through the A.A.S. in Business, students are well equipped to advance in their current career or go on to pursue a bachelor’s or further advanced degree.

The McGhee Core Curriculum is required of all degree-seeking students enrolled at the Paul McGhee Division: Writing (8 - 10 Credits): The following courses may be required based on writing placement assessment, and should be successfully completed within the first three semesters: Intensive Writing Workshop / Y20.7501; Writing Workshop I / Y20.7502; Writing Workshop II / Y20.7503. Critical Thinking (4 Credits): Critical Thinking / Y20.6401. Quantitative Reasoning (4 Credits): Students select one of the following based on math placement assessment in close consultation with their advisor: Math I / Y10.1101; Mathematical Reasoning / Y10.1105; Math II / Y10.1141; Precalculus / Y10.1171; Calculus with Applications to Business and Economics / Y10.1174. Scientific Issues (4 Credits): Students select one of the following in consultation with their advisor: Fundamentals of Biology I / Y13.2001; Global Ecology / Y20.3203; Stars, Planets, and Life / Y20.3207; Biology of Hunger and Population / Y20.3215. History, Culture, and Art (12 Credits): Students select one course from each subgroup in consultation with their advisor. Literary and Artistic Expressions (4 Credits): History of Music / Y20.5438; Visual Expressions in Society / Y20.5441; Major 20th-Century Writers / Y20.6201; Oral Traditions into Literature / Y20.6209.
