This program will help the students to: understand and apply child development theories and principles; identify and implement observation, documentation, and other assessment strategies; value and cultivate collaborative family and community relationships; identify, develop and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and teaching practices to positively guide children's behavior and learning; develop self-reflective habits and grow as members of the early childhood profession to understand the complexities of working with diverse groups of families, children, staff and the community; and develop an environment that honors the diversity of the learning community (children, families, staff and community) through empowerment, equity, respect and dignity.

Admission to this college is opened for applicants possessing a high school diploma or the equivalent or any individual who is at least 18 years of age and capable of profiting from the instruction. International students with a TOEFL score of less than 475 paper-based, 153 computer-based, or 53 internet-based are required to take the Allan Hancock College English as a Second Language (ESL) assessment test for placement into the appropriate ESL classes before registering for classes. And those who with a score of 475 paper-based (153 computer-based) or higher on the TOEFL are required to take the Allan Hancock College START test for English placement.
