The process technology program prepares students for employment as operations technicians in the process industry, which includes oil and gas production, mining and milling, transportation and refining, chemical manufacturing, power generation, utilities, wastewater treatment facilities maintenance, and food processing. This program incorporates technical and academic courses covering topics such as pumps and turbines, instrumentation, safety and quality control. Summer internships give students valuable practical experience and exposure to the true nature of process technology careers. Process technicians/operators may work in many industries including: oil and gas production; chemical manufacturing; petroleum refining; mining and milling; power generation and utilities; waste and wastewater treatment; and seafood and other food processing industries. Job responsibilities of the process technician include monitoring and controlling process systems; maintaining safe work areas and regulatory compliance; assigning maintenance to craft technicians and coordinating repairs; troubleshooting operations and testing the product for quality ; monitoring the instrumentation and controls associated with their area of responsibility; interfacing with support technicians; and supervising computer or analog automatic control equipment. Technicians may work both indoors and outdoors with process equipment, piping, and material transfers making this an exciting and challenging career choice. Entry-level salary ranges are from $45,000 to $72,000 annually.

Applicant should have a high school diploma and pass the 16-credit high school core curriculum with a GPA of at least 2.5. They should have a high school GPA of at least 3.0, or a high school GPA of at least 2.5 and ACT composite score of at least 18 or SAT total score of at least 1290 (including writing skills section). Applicant must have TOEFL with a minimum score of 213 (computer exam), 550 (paper exam) or 79 (Internet-based exam); or IELTS with a minimum score of 6.5. A score from the TOEFL or IELTS is required and cannot be waived even though English may be the language of instruction in their educational system.
