The School of Nursing offers a dual degree program in Community Health Nursing and Public Health in collaboration with the School of Medicine Department of Epidemiology and Community Health that leads to two degrees, a Master of Public Health (MPH) and a Master of Science (MS) in Nursing with a focus in community health. This dual degree program is tailored to meet the needs of students who want to have a public health degree in conjunction with a clinical degree. This dual degree program requires 58 credits of study in the two programs over five semesters of full-time study. Students may enroll for part-time study.

A baccalaureate degree in a field other than nursing from a regionally-accredited college or university. Acceptable GRE scores. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended are required including coursework taken as high school dual enrollment credit, non-degree seeking credit, study abroad or coursework taken and transferred to another institution. Official TOEFL scores be sent directly to Graduate Studies are required.

Of particular interest is the contextual impact of organizations, families and individuals. The department seeks to better the human condition through the application of integrative nursing knowledge with focal points of mental health, communities, and organizations. The goals are: conduct research and engage in scholarship, prepare scholars, practitioners, and leaders, participate in academic, professional, and community service.

VCU is known nationwide for its exceptional and varied educational opportunities and takes great pride in its vibrant cultural diversity. The on-campus housing options are equally diverse and are designed to meet the needs of any student who chooses to experience residential living, having 9- and 12-month facilities, traditional residential rooms, and suite- and apartment-style buildings. Each is staffed with a coordinator of residence education, with at least one resident director, and with many in-house resident and community assistants. Some of the special features of the residence halls are Air-conditioned, carpeted and fully furnished, including kitchen with full-size appliances. Living room furnished with love seat, lounge chair, coffee table and end tables. Bedrooms furnished with one double bed, desk, dresser, chair and closet. Ceiling fans in living room, dining room and bedrooms. Residents furnish kitchen, utensils, dishes, pots, pans, lamps, bed and bath linens, and bathroom and cleaning supplies. One bathroom in 2-person apartments; two bathrooms in 4-person apartments, Each bedroom wired for Internet, telephone and cable TV; living room wired for cable TV, Parking space provided in adjacent deck; fee included in housing cost. Community assistants live throughout the residence center,24-hour security (access via VCUCard ID; student security guards), Common room with games area; TV lounge, Study/meeting room, Computer lab, Common areas, maintained by full-time housekeeping staff.
