This program focuses on drawing, concept development, layout systems and information systems, computer technology, web design, research, typography, photography and presentation skills. This program focuses on all visual imagery both still and moving that persuades, promotes, educates, and informs. In this program, students will study typography, color theory, and layout design, as well as presentation and web design, all vital skills for a successful career in this increasingly demanding and competitive field. In this program, students will be exposed to the industry through field trips and guest lectures. Speakers have included an interactive designer, a letterpress designer, and a filmmaker, and many industry leaders, such as Steven Heller, Takaaki Matsumoto, and Massimo Vignelli. Also students will acquire a solid foundation for design, including the software used in the industry. This program highlights are faculty of practicing professionals offers classroom experiences that mirror the real design world and New York City is the extended campus, with leading design firms, museums, and galleries that provide rich resources for inspiration and opportunity.

Students must have completed high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED). They should have a grade point average (GPA) and rank in class (except applicants who have received an associate’s or bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college in the United States). SAT and ACT test scores are not required for admissions purposes. They are, however, required for the presidential scholars program. Applicants who have not submitted SAT/ACT test scores will have to take the FIT placement exam. Those who have completed less than four years of English (not ESL) at a U.S. high school are required to take the TOEFL or IELTS. International students must have obtained a minimum TOEFL score of 80 on internet-based (ibt) test, 213 on computer-based test, 550 on paper-based test; IELTS band score of 6.5 in the academic module is required. Applicants who have completed an English composition course at a college in the U.S. are not exempt from taking the TOEFL or IELTS scores.
