This program focuses on basic skills jewelry design, sculpture, casting, drafting, and fashion jewelry. In the second year, students will choose a concentration, Design or Studio and take more specialized classes to develop the expertise. In the Design option, students will focus on the fashion and aesthetic elements of jewelry. Students will learn to transform a 2D rendering into a 3D design. Studies include cost estimation, design analysis, manufacturing methods, and line-building, as well as fashion forecasting, market analysis, and world trends. In the Studio option, students will learn to develop a jewelry line from start to finish, including all phases of production.

Students must have completed high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED). They should have a grade point average (GPA) and rank in class (except applicants who have received an associate’s or bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college in the United States). SAT and ACT test scores are not required for admissions purposes. They are, however, required for the presidential scholars program. Applicants who have not submitted SAT/ACT test scores will have to take the FIT placement exam. Those who have completed less than four years of English (not ESL) at a U.S. high school are required to take the TOEFL or IELTS. International students must have obtained a minimum TOEFL score of 80 on internet-based (ibt) test, 213 on computer-based test, 550 on paper-based test; IELTS band score of 6.5 in the academic module is required. Applicants who have completed an English composition course at a college in the U.S. are not exempt from taking the TOEFL or IELTS scores.
