This program focuses on providing students with the knowledge, skills, and training required to prepare educators to work with young children. The program incorporates the standards from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). They will be able to: develop the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the increased challenges and responsibilities faced in today’s early childhood settings, learn how to incorporate the best teaching competencies and practices in their work environment, learn to recognize the diverse needs and learning styles of all children in today’s multicultural early childhood settings, learn how to be responsive to the individual and unique needs of children with special needs, attain a greater assurance of job security and expand their potential for career advancement, increase their computer and technology skills and create a foundation for lifelong learning. It is suitable for individuals with high school degrees or General Education Diplomas (GED) who wish to enter the field of early childhood education or practicing early childhood educators who wish to obtain an associate’s degree and/or increase their level of expertise in the field or practicing paraprofessionals who wish to obtain an associate’s degree in early childhood education and increase their level of expertise in the field.

Student should have completed a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required. Minimum paper score =550; Minimum computerized score = 213; Minimum internet score=79. A score of 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (ILETS) exam is accepted in lieu of the TOEFL. Either the SAT or ACT verbal score may substitute for the above English Language Proficiency scores. Applicants must earn a minimum 480 verbal on the SAT or 20 on the ACT.
