This program examines the black experience in the Americas, the Caribbean, and Africa from historical and contemporary perspectives. It studies the African American experience not only as an entity in its own right but also as a microcosm of dynamics operating in domestic and global settings. The program addresses the multidimensionality of the black experience, including its historical, political, public policy, legal, economic, sociological, psychological, religious, and artistic dimensions.

Applicants should have obtained a minimum TOEFL score of 173 (CBT) and 500 (PBT), or MELAB score of 72, or IELTS score of 6.0. ACT or SAT test scores may waive the English proficiency test requirement; the English sub score or critical reasoning sub score must be at least 19 or 430, respectively.
