This program provides students with a broad, general education with emphasis on the social sciences. Opportunities for practical work experience are provided through internships. Career Possibilities include: Local, state, and federal government agencies; Private businesses and organizations; Police agencies as officers, detectives, safety or security officers; Juvenile detention and probation officers, adult probation officers, and correctional officers; Attorneys; Investigators. Students may earn either a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Criminal Justice. The BA requires additional foreign language credits.

The program modules include Required Courses: GOV 2213 Introduction to Criminal Justice; GOV 3243 Criminal Law; GOV 4073 Constitutional Law: Government Structure; GOV 4083 Constitutional Law: Individual Rights; SOCI 2133 Crime in America; SOCI 3003 Theories of Crime and Deviance; SOCI 3043 Deviant Behavior and Social Control; SOCI 3053 Social Research. Plus 15 hours from the list below of which 9 must be advanced: GOV 2223 Criminal Investigation; GOV 3153 Legal Environment; GOV 3233 Police Policies and Practices; GOV 3253 Criminal Evidence and Procedure; GOV 3333 Urban Government; GOV 4113 Public Administration; GOV 4133 Women in Leadership; GOV 4143 Drug Law and Policy; GOV 4433 Family Law; HIST 3213 History of Law and Justice; SOCI 3063 Urban Sociology; SOCI 3113 Juvenile Delinquency; SOCI 4023 Sexualities and Identities; SOCI 4303 Correctional Systems and Practices; All students must complete the Core Curriculum Requirements and Foreign Language Requirements (BA: 12 hours same foreign language or BS:6 hours same foreign language). The following courses are designed to fulfill core curriculum requirements: SOCI 1013 should be taken for Social and Behavioral Sciences; Three hours of Literature should be taken for Humanities. With approval of advisor, a student may substitute three hours of statistics, economics, or three additional hours of language. Electives as necessary to total 120 hours.

Students should have earned a high school diploma or equivalent with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scales, they should have class ranking which places them in the top 50 percent of their high school graduating class, scored at least 1000 (verbal and math sections only) on the SAT or scored 21 or above composite on the ACT Assessment. International students, whose native language is not English, must demonstrate English language proficiency by obtaining minimum TOEFL score of 500 (paper - based) or 173 (computer - based) or 79 (internet - based).
