Students will learn a set of quantitative and analytical skills that will allow them to make sense of and draw conclusions from real world data, understand and appreciate how incentives influence human behavior and how this behavior affects markets and economies, become a rigorous and logical thinker, able to apply these abilities to a wide variety of real world occupations. Job titles of Economics graduates include the following: financial analyst, staff accountant, business analyst, management consultant, financial controller, economist, financial advisor, securities trader, loan officer, marketing research analyst, investment banker, forecaster, project manager. The traditional Economics major perfectly prepares students to meet the demands of businesses who want employees who can think, communicate orally, write, and solve problems, and who are comfortable with quantitative analysis.

The following are the modules: Economics Core (32 credits), Principles (8 credits): ECON 201. Intro to Microeconomics (4), ECON 202. Intro to Macroeconomics (4), Calculus (4 credits): This is not required for the Law, Economics, and Policy Option, MTH 241. Calculus for Management and Social Science (4), or MTH 251. Differential Calculus (4),Microeconomic Theory (4 credits): ECON 311. Intermediate Microeconomic Theory I (4), or ECON 411. Microeconomic Theory (4), Macroeconomic Theory (4 credits): ECON 315. Intermediate Macroeconomic Theory I (4), or ECON 415. Macroeconomic Theory (4), Statistics (4 credits): ST 351. Introduction to Statistical Methods (4), or ECON 423. Econometrics I (4) - Online Fall 2011 Econometrics (4 credits): ECON 427. Econometrics II (4) or ECON 424. Intro to Econometrics (4) - Online Winter 2012, WIC (Writing Intensive Course) (4 credits): ECON 428. Intro to Economic Research (4) or ECON 439. Public Policy Analysis (4) -Online Winter 2012 or ECON 463. Efficiency and Productivity Analysis (4), Additional Requirements (19 credits).

Applicants must have an excellent academic record (a minimum 3. 0 on a 4.0 scale or "B" grade average or equivalent) from an accredited or recognized institution to be admitted to Oregon State University. International students must have the following GPA scores: Paper score of 550; Internet score of 80 (Minimum score of 16 on each section) and IELTS score of 6.5.
