Located on the Busch Campus of Rutgers in Piscataway, New Jersey, this department is home to a broad array of world class research programs that impact life in areas as diverse as health, energy, and environment. It offers a comprehensive set of educational experiences for both graduate and undergraduate students. A major goal of the educational program is to train research scientists to create new knowledge and to become leaders in industry, academia, and government. Its Ph.D. Program encourages students to begin research early in their first year. Interdisciplinary research is encouraged and assisted through faculty interactions with a variety of Rutgers Centers and Institutes. Full and part time Master Degree Programs are particularly attractive to students currently employed, or looking to become employed, in the extensive chemical, pharmaceutical, and materials industries within the region. In addition to offering a broad range of course and program opportunities, it also encourage undergraduate students to perform research during their time at Rutgers. This experience provides a superb foundation for jobs in industry, as well as for advanced study. Its extensive suite of state-of-the-art research facilities allows our faculty and students to explore the most interesting and challenging questions in the many broad fields touched by chemistry. The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology routinely ranks in the top ten nationally for federal research funding, and has the largest percentage of women faculty members of any comparable major university. Rutgers also has the most diverse student body in the nation.

The university provides both on-campus and off-campus housing. In off-campus rooms are usually unfurnished singles (rooms for one person) or doubles (rooms for two people), and a great number are within walking distance of a campus. The common areas of the unit-as well as the household responsibilities-are usually shared by all tenants. Rooms in Private Homes are rooms in owner-occupied apartments or houses. They are usually furnished and generally include partial or all utility charges in the monthly rent. Rooms in private homes do not always include kitchen privileges, and few are available within walking distance of a campus. Most are in surrounding municipalities. In on-campus housing student residence halls provide the following equipment and facilities. In the rooms: A bed, desk, chair, dresser, and closet for each student, window coverings (drapes or blinds), and smoke detector. In the buildings (most residences have these facilities in the building): Laundry. Lounge (many with TV). Study area. Kitchen or kitchenette (many with microwaves). Food and beverage vending machines. Conveniently nearby on each campus: dining hall(s), library computer lab(s), recreational center (Busch, College Avenue, and Cook offer swimming pools), campus activities center, numerous bus stops, public pay phones.
