Applicants to UH Manoa are expected to have completed certain requirements in high school. Professional and certain other programs may have specific GPA and prerequisite course work requirements. Students who do not have any university/college coursework will be required to submit either the SAT or ACT. Both are not required. Minimum TOEFL Scores required are: Computer Score 173, Internet Score 61, Paper Score 500. 2.50 is the minimum GPA requirement for international applicants transferring from an U.S. institution. Professional and certain other programs may require higher GPAs and additional prerequisite course work.

The Chemistry Department of the University of Hawaii at Manoa has 15 permanent (tenured and tenure-track) faculty members, 10-15 postdoctoral research fellows, and 13 technical and secretarial staff members. The graduate program has 30-40 students, of which half are in the Ph.D. program, with the remainder working towards their M.S. Typically, there are 70 undergraduates pursuing their bachelor's degrees at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Undergraduate majors have the option of pursuing a B.A. or B.S. in Chemistry.

The University housing program provides on-campus housing to Manoa students in a variety of living arrangements that include apartments and traditional coed facilities, single and double occupancy rooms, suites and apartment units. The University housing program strives to create an atmosphere conducive to the development of responsible citizens in a democratic community. Specific rules and regulations intended to protect the rights of individuals have been developed by the University administration, residential staff and student leaders. Each resident is responsible to know and observe these rules and regulations. Residents who cannot accept these basic rules for community living or cannot extend consideration for the rights of other residents should evaluate their needs carefully before applying for on-campus housing. Contract releases are not granted for reasons of dissatisfaction with a group living environment. The 2008-2009 Academic Year contract provides housing for the Fall and Spring semesters with prices for traditional doubles starting at $3,497 and apartments units starting at $4,631. Meal plans are handled by a private provider, Sodexho, with prices starting around $1,151 per semester, or $2,302 for the academic year. All applicants should review the assignment terms and priorities for the 2008-2009 academic year.
