This program offers broad training in the major fields of philosophy, with particular strengths in the history of ancient and modern philosophy, logic, metaphysics, epistemology, philosophy of science, philosophy of language, philosophy of mind, philosophy of religion, ethics, and social and political philosophy. In addition to classes and seminars, the Department offers a rich and lively environment with an emphasis on informal interaction between faculty and students.

Students should possess graduation from an accredited high school or they should have received a GED. The high school curricular core requirements should include the following courses: 4 units of English, 3 units of college prep math, 3 units of laboratory science, 3 units of history and citizenship and 2 additional units. An official TOEFL score of 550 on the paper-based test (213 on the computer-based test or 79 on the internet-based test), IELTS score of 6.5 and cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) is required.
